Making a Winter Survival Kit for Your Car

If you live in a rural area or a climate that experiences extreme winters, it's a good idea to have a winter survival kit for your vehicle so you'll be comfortable if you're stranded and waiting for help.

Always keep basic safety supplies in your trunk, like a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, jumper cables, flares and tire sealant. For winter-specific items, stock a plastic tub with a warm blanket, bottled water, protein bars or other snacks and a few chemical packets that warm when you activate them and can be slipped inside a pair of gloves. It's also a good idea to keep a roll of duct tape, a utility tool, tow ropes and a battery-powered cell phone charger in your vehicle.
